Cardiology Facts 31

  • Nitric oxide causes increased smooth muscle proliferation in endothelium
  • Hypertension is most responsible risk factor for increased burden of HFpEF
  • Medtronic Hall valve is single tilting disc valve
  • Prevent transplant vasculopathy - statins, HTN & DM control, avoidance of smoking
  • Prominent S2, holosystolic murmur at right lower sternal border, RV heave - right heart catheterization for pulmonary pressures and determining whether pulmonary hypertension is due to pulmonary vasculopathy (with normal PCWP) or pulmonary hypertension due to left heart disease (elevated PCWP)
  • Class II drugs block beta-adrenergic receptors
  • No antibiotic prophylaxis is recommended prior to dental procedures for people with mitral valve prolapse
  • During second trimester of pregnancy there is increase in CO and decrease in SVR
  • CRT improves myocardial performance without increasing myocardial oxygen consumption
  • NSTEMI, high risk criteria (increasing frequency of chest pain, elevated troponin, echocardiographic abnormalities) - early invasive strategy, coronary angiography within 48 hours followed by PCI/surgery
